I buried my face into her belly and blew hard. The response was peals of laughter. I waited a moment to catch her eye, breathed in deeply, and blew again against her soft skin. More laughter. It was a game that I remember from my own childhood, but as a child I never realised how much my parents also enjoyed it. Just one more laugh… just one more.
Hannah is not old enough to talk, but I know I’ll be asking her some of the same questions over and over. Can you say ‘mama’? Which foot does this shoe go on? Who loves you lots and lots? I know the answers already, but I want to hear them from her.
God is like that. He doesn’t tickle you or play with toys, but He is fully attentive to you. It doesn’t matter that your love is a fraction of His; He wants to hear that you love Him. Over and over. Sing it from the rooftops! It’s not because He needs to hear it; it’s because He wants to hear it from you. It’s about your relationship with Him. He’s there and He’s listening. He even knows exactly what you are going to say, but no one else can say it better than you.
